7 Celebrity Secrets to Healthy Ageing

Celebrities seem to defy time and radiate ageless beauty. While many remain tight-lipped about their secrets, a few stars have spilt the tea on their go-to tricks for healthy ageing. Thank heavens for the generous ones! Here are seven skincare products and routines these celebs swear help them embrace their years gracefully.

1. Plant Oils

Studies from the International Journal of Molecular Sciences reveal that plant oils have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects on the skin. Two celebrity believers: Jennifer Lopez and Eva Mendes.

Eva tells the magazine NewBeauty she uses coconut oil on her face to maintain her radiant glow. Jennifer, who is in her 50s, uses olive oil, a healthy ageing secret passed down to her by her family.

“My mom and aunts swear by olive oil to deliver a glow. It gives the skin this weightless, all-day hydration, antioxidant protection, and an ageless radiance,” Jennifer shares with InStyle magazine.

In an article for British Vogue, holistic aesthetic doctor Rabia Malik suggests applying face oil after your serum and/or moisturiser. Alternatively, you can use it before sunscreen and make-up in the morning or as the last step of your nighttime skincare routine.

2. Facial Masks

Whether a DIY or a sheet mask, facial masks can elevate an age-defying skincare routine. Model Lily Aldridge tells InStyle that she uses one as a final touch after moisturising her skin to prepare for a date night. Posh Spice herself, fashion designer Victoria Beckham, wears a moisturising mask while massaging her face with a jade roller, according to Into The Gloss.

3. Beauty Sleep

For many celebrities, quality slumber becomes a precious commodity due to a demanding schedule and the pressure to look flawless every moment. So, they take every chance they get to sleep, hoping to reap its benefits of mental and physical rest and glowing skin.

Will & Grace star Debra Messing credits beauty sleep for coping with Hollywood’s fast pace of life. “I was working 12 hours every single day. And then I would come home and be a single mom, and then have to learn my lines for the next day. So, for me, staying healthy was really about trying to catch up on sleep,” she shares with Prevention magazine.

Meanwhile, Penelope Cruz tells InStyle she is grateful her mom badgered her about sleep. “She always said to eat healthy and get a solid amount of rest. I remember her sounding like a broken record telling us to eat our veggies and go to sleep. She annoyed me, but now, as a mother, I hear myself saying the same things,” she candidly says.

4. Facial Cleansing

It can be tempting to skip washing your face after a long night out. However, before you head straight to bed, ponder this: studies suggest that sleeping without removing makeup, sweat, or dirt may add years to your face. Research from Life journal confirms that microbiomes on your skin, like bacteria, can accelerate skin ageing.

That’s not a problem for Salma Hayek, who cleans her face every night without fail. She tells InStyle magazine, “I’ve never gone to bed without washing my face. Never in my life. Even if I’m sick, tired – heck, even if I was drunk! I might forget to take off the dress, the shoes, and the jewellery, but not the makeup. It’s second nature.”

5. Skin Hydration

Halle Berry has one of the best quotes about healthy ageing: “I just want to always look like myself, even if that’s an older version of myself.”

You already know the benefits of having moisturised, hydrated skin. But with so many products that promise a dewy, ageless complexion, where do you start? Hollywood icon Julianne Moore keeps her skin hydrated and protected with face oil or serum.

Additionally, Oscar winner Halle Berry suggests using rosewater to prep your skin. “Before I do my makeup, I spray my face with rosewater and let that sink in. It keeps my makeup looking very dewy, and I feel like it just makes me look more youthful, alive, and fresh,” the Catwoman star tells InStyle.

6. Sunscreen

Both Halle Berry and Jessica Alba believe in the power of an age-defying skincare routine to maintain a youthful glow.

Celebrities like Jennifer Garner, Reese Witherspoon, and Nicole Kidman never leave the house without sunscreen. Jessica Alba also believes in the power of sun protection and thanks her mom for instilling the habit.

Jessica shares, “My mother taught me to always wear sunscreen and to treat my beauty products as an investment. She would cheap out on her clothes before, but she would never skimp on her skincare or makeup. She’d say, ‘Listen, this is your face. It’s all you’ve got.’” So, follow suit and invest in a moisturiser with an SPF of at least 30 to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful effects.

7. A Positive Outlook

Embracing a positive mindset can influence how you navigate the concept of healthy ageing. Just look at one of the most beautiful actresses, Cate Blanchett, who chalks up her radiance to stress relief.

“I think that anything you can do to remove stress will give you a better glow,” the Australian actress and producer shares with the online beauty magazine Byrdie.

Hollywood star Gabrielle Union agrees. Besides living a healthy lifestyle, setting boundaries and prioritising self-care help her age with grace.

“My best anti-ageing tip is the ability to say no, no, and hell, no. We run ourselves ragged saying yes to every freaking thing, whether it’s to our family, spouses, or careers. I sleep eight hours a day and don’t let myself stress out. A lot of people call it selfish, but I don’t have any wrinkles,” says the American TV and film actress.

Many people who age well often attribute their vibrancy to a sunny disposition, regardless of whether or not they are celebrities. And smiling does a lot to elevate mood for the better. If crooked teeth make you self-conscious and less confident about smiling, ask your dentist about ClearCorrect. These dental aligners are a discreet and convenient solution to treat misaligned teeth without impacting your daily life.

Remember that healthy ageing goes beyond cosmetic products and skincare routines. Taking breaks, finding joy in small moments, and cultivating meaningful connections give you that inner sparkle. Whether you embrace your wrinkles or conceal the lines, you live your best self when you call the shots.
